Info Session: New Report Cards

In the fall of 2016 the province of British Columbia adopted a redesigned curriculum in Kindergarten to Grade 9. This redesign focuses on what we want students to know, do and understand in order to be successful in a rapidly changing world. With this change in curriculum we have shifted how we communicate student learning to parents and guardians. Families with students in Kindergarten to Grade 8 will notice a change in how we communicate learning.

Report cards will now:

  • communicate how students achieve in more detail
  • focus their reports on what students are able to do as a result of their learning
  • communicate student learning in greater depth

In addition to these updates, students in Grades 4 and 5 will no longer be receiving letter grades.

In place of letter grades teachers will communicate achievement using the following language:

  • Not Yet Meeting Expectations
  • Minimally Meeting Expectations
  • Fully Meeting Expectations
  • Exceeding Expectations

Grade 6, 7, and 8 students will still receive letter grades on the final (term3) report card. All students will continue to receive a rich and meaningful education program that meets the requirements of the B.C. Curriculum.
