Barrowtown Summer Welcome Back

The Start of a New School Year at Barrowtown

The end of the summer season is quickly coming upon us, and this should come as no surprise. After all, it is the favourite season where we can spend time with family and friends in the warmth of the sun. Running through the sprinkler in the backyard, gathering around the barbecue, and playing on the beach are some of the many summer activities that come to mind. I look forward to welcoming back our Barrowtown children, and hearing all about their special summer memories and adventures on the first day of school.  I also look forward to meeting and welcoming our new students and their family to our community.

The start of the new school year brings with it, its own unique excitement and sense of anticipation. This is that time of year when our students look forward to seeing their classmates and teachers once again, and hearing about some of the upcoming activities and special events. May the start of the new school year be just as exciting for our kindergarten children and students new to our school.

Every school year is unique and different. It is the journey that we, as a school community, take together which will lead our children to a rewarding, memorable, successful, and fun school year. I look forward to being a part of this team of teachers, staff, PAC, students, parent/ grandparent volunteers, families, and the greater community to ensure that this year will be the best one yet.

I have included some information below to answer some questions you may have at this time.  Please feel free to contact the school or me if you have any questions.

The students are ready, the teachers are set, and we are all ready to go.

f) What do I need to do before the first day of school?

Be sure to clearly label your clothing, jackets, backpacks, lunch kits, lunch containers, shoes, and any other item you bring to school. This will help to get items back to their respectful owners should they be misplaced or lost.

g) What do I need to bring on the first day of school?

If you have pre-purchased your school supplies through the school, they will be given to you on the first day back. Send a healthy snack to school for recess time.

Note: For parents purchasing school supplies for their children on their own, a school supply list can be accessed through this following link:

h) What should I remember when packing my recess snack and lunch?

To help create a cleaner and greener environment, we are encouraging students to bring ‘waste free’ lunches/snacks. In other words, use reusable drink containers and lunch containers whenever possible. Try to avoid using Ziploc bags as these will end up being thrown out in the garbage.

i) Are there any volunteering opportunities at the school?

Most definitely! To provide our children with greater learning opportunities, we are hoping to have parents help with supervision, field trips, classroom support, library, projects, special events, and extra-curricular clubs. If you are interested and available to help, please contact Mrs. Trelving at the front office at your earliest opportunity.

k) What extra-curricular clubs will be offered this school year?

There will be a variety of special interest clubs offered during lunch hour and after school time during the school year, depending on the number of parent, community, and staff volunteers. This is a time for students to take part in activities that are of special interest to them or to learn new skills in the company of their friends and classmates.

l) Which House team will show the most school spirit this year?

We will find out this school year when members of the Bears, Cedar, Eagles, and Salmon take part in some friendly House competitions and activities. All kindergarten students, and students new to the school, will be placed in one of these four Houses during the first week of school.
