Weather & Closures

Winter Weather Procedures

During the late fall and winter months, weather conditions might cause a school or schools to shut down. The Superintendent of Schools has authority, on behalf of the Board, to temporarily close a school or schools. A number of factors go into this decision, including: student safety, the conditions of roads near schools, school grounds, school bus routes, and whether facilities are fully operational.

Please utilize one of of the following information mediums, and DO NOT CALL your child's school.

The decision to close a school is made in a timely manner, as circumstances allow. Details and updates are always distributed via the below platforms; please connect with us online.

Should a decision to close schools be made during the school day, schools will utilize phone calls to contact parents/guardians, and the district will post notices on its website and use social media outlets.

Opt-In to Receive Text Messages

The district will also send out an automated message from it's messaging system, SchoolConnects (formerly Synervoice). Parents/guardians and staff who want to also receive text messages from the Abbotsford School District must opt-in by texting the word JOIN to 56360 from the mobile phone they wish to receive text messages on.

Families can participate in this free service just by sending a text message of “Y” or “Yes” to our school district’s short code number, 67587.

You can also opt out of these messages at any time by simply replying to one of our messages with “Stop”. SchoolMessenger is compliant with the Student Privacy PledgeTM, so you can rest assured that your information is safe and will never be given or sold to anyone.
