Opportunities at Barrowtown

If you are interested in becoming a parent volunteer, we have the following volunteer opportunities at our school:

  • Parent Advisory Council
  • Library
  • Classroom (reading with children)
  • Noon Hour Supervisor (paid position)
  • Driving for field trips

New Volunteer Guidelines

The Ministry of Justice – the provincial regulatory division for Criminal Record Checks (CRC), introduced new regulations requiring any volunteer or contractor who comes near or works around children and/or vulnerable adults to complete a criminal record check through the Criminal Records Review Program (CRRP), regardless of the time spent working near or around students, i.e., 1 hour or 1 month.

Current Volunteers & Future Volunteers

If you are currently volunteering in our school for example classrooms, field trips, special events, volunteering as part of our PAC, are a Noon Hour Supervisor etc., you must have criminal record check clearance by January 31, 2020, in order to continue in your role.

Current volunteers WITH a current criminal record check on file at our school will be required to obtain a new one through this new process. You are required to go to the Abbotsford School District Board Office to fill out a criminal record check consent form and will need to provide 2 pieces of approved ID. This must be completed by January 31, 2020, to continue in your role.

Current volunteers WITHOUT a criminal record check should email barrowtown@abbyschools.ca with your first and last name and indicate that you would like to continue volunteering so we can forward your name to our HR department. You will then be required to go to the Abbotsford School District Board Office to fill out a criminal record check consent form and will need to provide 2 pieces of approved ID. Effective January 31, 2020, you must have criminal record check clearance to continue volunteering in our school.

Please contact our school if you have any questions regarding this new requirement.
